Defending the use of evidence to formulate public policies and programs has recently gained momentum, reflecting the conviction that their results are more effective when they are based on scientific elements.
However, often in the implementation stage, political agents find it difficult to understand and adapt scientific evidence to everyday life. This context reinforces the importance of valuing the integration between the implementation science – which provides strategies and information to guide execution – to the perspective practice, which deals with the contextual adaptations needed for a public policy to be executed.
Thus, in 2020, the Núcleo Ciência Pela Infância (NCPI) launched the short-term online course “Ciência e Implementação de Políticas Públicas na Primeira Infância,” (Portuguese for, “Science and Implementation of Public Policies on Early Childhood Development”), in partnership with the CGPP – Centro de Gestão e Políticas Públicas (Portuguese for, Center for Management and Public Policy) from Insper.
This training is designed to value the integration between research, policy, and practice. To this end, the course presents components and methodology so that the participants can effectively improve the implementation of public policies based on evidence and focused on healthy early childhood development in their territories and spheres of activity.
